I’m noticing a big increase in the number of existing and prospective clients who are interested in utilising the services of a Finance Director on a part time basis.
In some instances this is to deal with a specific issue which needs to be resolved, procedures put in place to stop it happening again, and then monitor progress from afar. So a concentrated effort initially followed by regular checks and updates.
I’m finding that more and more clients want a little more from their accountant. They want their accountant to genuinely show an interest in their business and provide advice and support on a frequent basis throughout the year, perhaps with a quarterly meeting for half a day or so to review business performance and how to plan for the future.
This is the side of my work that I love, being able to use the experience I gained in industry to help make my clients businesses better. This is where real value added service can be provided. All accountants can file accounts and complete tax returns but not all can role their sleeves up and muck in with the client to tackle those real business issues which make or break a business.
So, perhaps after reading this you think ‘I do want more from my accountant’…
…well good, because you should be getting more, you and your business deserve it!
